Audi Start-Stop-System

This advanced Audi technology is designed to help save fuel and reduce Carbon Dioxide emissions at the same time.  It shuts off the engine when you stop at traffic signals or during certain stop-and-go driving.  When the system shuts off the engine, the Start-Stop-System light appears in the Driver Information System in the instrument cluster.  Releasing the brake pedal instantly restarts the engine and makes power available before your foot even reaches the accelerator.  Simply drive as you normally would, and it works seamlessly.
How to maximize the Start-Stop-System and Electonic Parking Brake convenience in typical driving situations.

Your Action

You want the vehicle to keep running during a full-service car wash or a quick errand away from the car.
If the Start-Stop-System is on and the vehicle's engine is off at the moment, unfastening the safety belt and opening the driver's door will immediately shut the vehicle ignition off.
Either restart the vehicle using the "Start Engine Stop" button to keep it running
or
Turn the Start-Stop-System off before unfastening your safety belt and opening the driver's door.

You are driving at a speed of 1.9 mph or less either forward or backward (example: approaching a mailbox, toll collector, ticket machine) and you open the door to assess your position.

If the driver's safety belt is unfastened, the engine and ignition will immediately be switched off and the Electronic Parking Brake engaged.
If the driver's safety belt is fastened, only the Electronic Parking Brake will be engaged.
Either restart the vehicle using the "Start Engine Stop" button in the first case or simply release the Electronic Parking Brake in the second case.
or
Creep toward stationary objects at a speed of 1.9 mph or less as long as the door is not open (recommend opening the window instead or not opening the door until you are positioned properly).
